Julia works with, adult clients, helping them with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, emotional challenges, poor self-esteem, loss, grief, and trauma.
Julia brings a sense of humour, compassion, respect, and honesty to her work. She takes a client-centred, strengths-based approach, seeing people as whole and complex, with the internal resources needed to be the experts in themselves and achieve the changes they need to have the quality of life they deserve.
Julia works collaboratively with her clients to achieve their goals, assisting them to connect with and make sense of the experiences that have contributed to the challenges they are facing.
By helping people better understand their experiences, the interpretations they have made about themselves and the world around them, she encourages her clients to be curious about themselves and look beyond their symptoms to understand themselves more deeply. This, along with developing practical strategies to better manage their emotional and behavioural challenges, creates lasting, positive change that will permeate throughout many areas of their lives.
Julia believes it is important for people to not be afraid of their emotions, but rather to be curious about them without judgement. By understanding the messages their emotions are giving them, and the behavioural urges that are driven by them, they are better able to respond to them in a self-empowering way.
Julia enjoys assisting people in navigating the challenges of the life stage they find themselves in, by meeting the client where they are and being led by the clients’ personal developmental needs. She carefully considers the most appropriate therapeutic approach to best meet their needs at that time.
Julia is experienced in working with several therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT),Mindfulness, Family Informed Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and EMDR, as well as working within Client Centred and Attachment Theory frameworks.
